Bris & Baby Naming
Mazal tov!
A new baby brings a lot of joy and usually a lot of questions too.
If you need help arranging a bris, choosing a Hebrew name, or figuring out what comes next, call us.
For a baby boy
A Jewish baby boy is traditionally named at his bris, held on the eighth day when Jewish law permits.
If you are expecting a boy, you can call us before the baby is born.
We can help:
- Connect you with a qualified mohel
- Explain what happens at the bris
- Help with planning
- Talk through Hebrew names
- Help with the practical details
You don’t need to know anything beforehand.
The mohel we recommend
For a bris, we recommend Rabbi Gil Leeds, the Bay Area Mohel - highly certified and highly recommended.

For a baby girl
A baby girl is traditionally given her Hebrew name at a Torah reading.
At Chabad of Concord, the usual opportunity is Shabbat morning, when we have a minyan and read from the Torah.
A blessing is said for the baby and her mother, and her Hebrew name is announced.
If you’re welcoming a baby girl, contact Rabbi Berel and we’ll help arrange the naming and, if you’d like, a Kiddush or celebration afterward.
Call us when the baby arrives and we’ll figure out the right Shabbat together.
Choosing a Hebrew name
Some families name after a relative.
Others choose a Jewish name they find meaningful.
If you’re not sure, we’re happy to talk it through with you.
And if you’re an adult who never received a Hebrew name, it’s not too late.
Have a baby on the way—or already here?
